It's due a typical narrow view of the Supreme Being promoted by
unintelligent clerics. Does bothering about what happens to a written
version of his/her name gel with the concept of a Being who can create a
Universe? Especially if the phase-space of belief includes
predestination!

Most people who confess a religious belief, of any flavour, have a very
limited concept of their god(s).

Of course, the Stars and Stripes is treated with similar reverence, for
the same underlying reason.
