Hi,

I'm using Mac 10.6.3. When I want to shut down or restart, it takes a
while because I have to answer questions from most of my applications
like "Do you really want to close?" or "Save your work before
closing?". Is there a way that I can restart without manually having
to specify that I don't want to save anything and always affirming
that, yes, I really want to close this application?

Thanks, - Dave

You could just pull the plug... but not recommended.

Short of changing your M.O., I don't know of a way. If you tend to close
apps - or at least documents- when done with them, the delay becomes de
minimus; I do this as I go along, using Cmd Q and then usually hitting
return to answer yes to whatever's in the blue box.

Speaking of which, I am guessing there might be a few here that aren't
aware that whenever a dialogue box pops up, hitting return activates
whatever's in said blue box. It's saved elbows and time not reaching for
the mouse.

Hold down the Option key while you select Restart from the Apple menu.

If you are truly not concerned with losing unsaved data, you can issue
this terminal command (from an administrator account) to do a fast shut
down:

sudo reboot

Note that this will force quit all running applications, causing you to
lose any unsaved data. Also depending on how such applications are
written, associated preferences files may or may not be closed or
updated correctly, which may result in unexpected or incorrect operation
later on. Personally, I would not recommend doing this on a regular
basis.

Yes, it is a nuisance when you want to rush out, the command will
not be carried out but impertinently questioned! There might be a
way to script for save all open docs and shut all apps and ignore
warnings but I doubt it?

It might speed things up if you use the return key to say yes or
no to things but you probably know this. What you might be
missing is that you may sometimes find in preferences in apps
options that will help to avoid warnings: for example, in Safari,
you can tick or not tick "Confirm when closing multiple pages".
Stuff like this. But it might also be counterproductive, patience
at shutdown might be better, no?
