Did you set the port to 120? Port 119 gets you the other NGs, I think.

I set it to 120 and got 'unable to connect to server'. I tried it again
later and managed to download the Answers groups BUT

Oh my goodness - what a jumble! The public.word groups were organised into
specific areas.

I really need to find another server as I am sure I shall never have the
time to read all these!

Thanks for your help everyone.

From: Suzanne S. Barnhill on
What I forgot when I set it up on my laptop (after running it on my desktop
for a while) was that I had to actually START the bridge after installing
it. I kept getting a message suggesting that WLM couldn't connect to the
server, possibly because my firewall was blocking it. Well, of course that
was a red herring. Once I remembered to actually start the bridge, I had no
problem.

The NGs are not really that much of a jumble. Realize that you probably want
to concentrate on the .en-US branch, then look for .word (or any other
application you're interested in).

From: bj on
Thank you for the details on the how-to.
I'll print it out & grit my teeth to give it a try.

I just hope I don't have too many problems with Word & Pub if/when I change
to the 2010 versions, as it still doesn't look like getting help is going to
be as easy as it has been. I've learned a lot of little tricks just from
lurking.

I'm not as "adventurous" as I used to be -- whether because things just keep
getting more complicated (without always getting any better & generally not
easier beyond the first few tweaks) or because I'm getting older & have more
trouble adjusting. :-)
bj
(is MS trying to tell me to get lost?)
(I already know I'm a demographic they are not interested in!)

From: Graham Mayor on
You don't need to read all of them. You only need to read three. They are
filed in order and shouldn't be too hard to find.

Answers.en-US.wordcreate
Answers.en-US.wordgraphic
Answers.en-US.wordshare

and if you are remotely interested in vba programming, though even at this
lkate stage we are lobbying for a dedicated Word programming forum not
lumped in with Outlook and Powerpoint etc.
