microphone and skype on dell latitude 2100

Hi. I'm still running Slackware 12.2, but I've had pretty good luck so far installing selected *.txz packages from Slackware 13. Is there a viewer for txz packages available? HAL\udev from the command line or a bash script?
I'm dumping Xfce for IceWM, and have hit a snag with mounting USB items.
