That seems to be it. I'm told I'll need to get them off with a thumb drive, after which I'd have to feed them to the laptop to reach the backup HD, which is where I'd put them. Previously I had the backup HD attached to the G4 and used the network to archive things from both computers with no difficulty. Both computers could access it, even though the G4 couldn't OPEN the laptop's backups. Since the laptop only has one Firewire port(the backup is Firewire), I could then connect something else there. If so, you can boot up on it to export the address book data. It has the backup copy of everything that was on this computer a year ago(I know, I should back up the whole thing more often) but I can only access it through the laptop with SnowLeopard snarling at it. -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist http://www.mosaictelecom.com/~erilarlo

As far as I know, it is. It's certainly the only one within a really wide radius, and it's 50-odd miles from me. I understood that part, but I don't know how to tell the difference, as this is the only one I'm familiar with: http://www.macmanstore.com/ -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist http://www.mosaictelecom.com/~erilarlo

Why not back the G4 up and install OS X on it? Copy your floppy-disk stuff to modern CD-Rs or DVDs; copy the, er umm, "thick" DVDs to some modern "thin" ones (I dunno, there were some that were "thicker" but they were a kind of bizarre DVD/CD hybrid); I can't believe that your G4 was capable of playing them). 9.2.2 is dead and gone, just like NT 4. -- Very old woody beets will never cook tender. -- Fannie Farmer |
