Oysters are big in Apalachicola Fl.about 60 miles SE of us. The are still good but for how long? Not to long ago they were fighting either Ala. or Ga. for river water to keep their oysters beds right for good oysters. I like to say we started the shrimp farming here, although I didn't arrive in Fl. untill 12 years after the shrimpfarm was gone. They actually fenced off 2500 acre section of North bay in St. Andrews bay, ( try that today!) and searched for the best shrimp to grow in captivity. Worked with purina to develop Shrimp Chow. Spent millions and in the end here in PC you get one crop a year within 15 degrees of the equator they got 3 crops. A big Hurricane hurt too. I have a book by one of the first involved. Memoirs of a shrimp farmer The story of how a Giant new Industry Developed. Marifarms Incorporated. John Rutledge Cheshire. http://www.shrimpnews.com/FirstShrimpFarm.html I haven't seen this, I hope it's good, I'll watch it later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs3bDFNyrzY I think it was Vanity press but I think still available. He spent a lot of money, ah his wife money she was from a wealthy family. Later Guys, Mike

Fresh stuff, prepared to order (heads > on/off, > deveined/not, shells on/off). The guy my wife buys such things from. > Delivered. Today, we are selling a head on 26-30 shrimp for $5.75 LB and a 15 count shrimp head on for $7.25. and a 10 count for $8.50. That is all we sell is head on , unless a customer just can't take those heads off, we charge for it. We have some 6 count shrimp for $10.00 occasionally. The larger shrimp come from the Gulf not the bay and the Gulf about shut down. I have never shrimped , we are just in the middle, and we are both loved and hated by the shrimpers. we sell their shrimp for them but they can't stand that what they sell for $2.00 to wholesaler the truck moves 50 yds and unloads to us at say $2.50 and we do a little sorting and sell two sizes, previous to the oil mess, $5.50 and $6.75. But they are their own enemy. If a customer comes to the boat ( bad for us) the shrimper thinks he's smart and sells it unsorted for $4.00. That customer will rarely come back to me cause they bought off a shrimpboat and I sey they ruin a perfectly fine customer :-) We have already set a price say unsorted of $6.00 and they don't get the going rate. There is also some regulations they seem to bypass, Every pound is supposed to be report the (bad rule) is the shrimper must sell his shrimp to a wholesaler then a trip ticket is made, then shrimper must buy it back so he can sell it. (That never happens) A shrimper works from about 5 pm until 7am then might sell a few shrimp before the wholsaler arrives between 8am or 9am. It is very hard to shrimp all night and sell all day. We fill that niche nicely. Did I mention I couldn't shut off my think last night, I haven't slept sense 6am June 5th, so I made no sense your probably right. Later, Mike
