From: amdx on 6 Jun 2010 02:12 Hi all, This is Mike, (amdx) in Panama city Fl. I don't know if I have said anything about my business of the last 10 yrs. Well, my wife and I have a small boat in a marina from which we sell shrimp .. It is a floating store, we never move it, we are open 10 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 363 days a year for the last 6yrs 10mo. The oil is hear, the commercial fishing boats are done, the charter boats will be shut down on Monday. The shrimp boats still have some time, we are in a bay with only one inlet and lots of shrimp during shrimping months. Use Google Maps > st andrews Bay < During about 6 to 8 months of the year we use Gulf shrimp, which come in on large *IQF boats that are out 3 to 4 weeks per trip. *Individully Quick Frozen So we are stocking up as boats come in, the price is up 20 to 30% likely to go much higher. We can keep the business going, hopefully till the end of the year, but that's just a wag at this point. BP is in my opinion >get ready< doing good by the fishermen, the had an office here, 2 months ago, and have giving $5,000 checks to captains and owners, $2,500 to deck hands. This is just a start, every month show your losses and get your check. I have been on this marina for 10 yrs, know everyone here and what they do or DON'T do. I have never seen fraud on such a wide scale. People that never fished or thought of it are getting ( stealing ) money from BP. Not 10s but 100s. I have a dozen local stories. I'd go on but it's late, I'm tired. I'm not to worried because I see BP paying out and I have good records, so if / when we start having losses I think / hope BP will make them up. I'm in my middle 50s, one daughter in her first year of college another one going in two years. This could be exciting! I'll be thinking what would do if I didn't have this business. Wow it sure is a big world. I might have time to fight the Democrats, full time. I could save the country! Oh man, it must be way past my bed time. :-) Later all, Mike PS. I have been a happy man for about 2 weeks, 5 weeks ago I got a pinch sciatic nerve. It caused never stopping pain down my right leg. I had 2 weeks of the worst pain in my life, I was on my back couldn't sit, walk, sleep much. I had drugs but they don't seem to help nerve pain much, but they do put you out. After 2 weeks I had some relief, it was, oh man the end of pain is near. 2 more weeks of pain but I started being able to move and work a little a few hour here and there. I'm fine now. That's why I've been so happy, The pain is gone and I feel good, My poor wife took over and put in 70 + hrs for two weeks plus. She's Great.

I have a doc apointment in a couple months, for regular check and I'll ask. I didn't have an MRI so we don't know the exact cause. Yes, you are right. I have been healthly my whole life, but 5 weeks of low activity and I know I lost some muscle, but I'll get it back. That was one of the pluses of working for myself, I could walk a 1/2 mile around the marina and still see my boat, when I got a customer I'd run back and be there before they were out of there car. Many days I walked 4 miles around the marina. Thanks, Mike

Many days I walked 4 miles > around the marina. It sounds like a "slipped disk" which is to say a herniated intervertebral disk, which had extruded a lump of cartilage that was been pressing on the sciatic nerve inside your spinal column. Avoid chiropractors and physiotherapists until you have had an MRI scan and know exactky what is going on in your back. Back exercises can be very helpful, but chiropractors and physiotherapists have been known to over-do it. My experience was that physiotherapy during the acute phase made the situation a lot worse. When I finally got an MRI scan - this was back in 1989 in the UK and I had to pay for it myself to get it when I needed it - it made it perfectly clear that my intervertebral disk had ruptured rather than bulged, and there was extra cartilage all over the place. Of course, by the time that I got the scan, the disk had healed up and looked perfectly healthy, and my body was busy cleaning up the extra cartilage. The sciatic nerve had been damaged, and that is still healing up some twenty years later - the numb area in my left calf isn't as big as it was. -- Bill Sloman, Nijmegen

Good luck Mike. We are seeing a rise in shrimp price now in the NE. |
