What about:

- pencils
- pens
- protractors
- 3 "bladed" rulers
- paper cutters (which really are dangerous)
- scissors
- paper (you can make a fairly good weapon out of paper)

Honestly, where do you stop?

I have heard of school districts now where baseball bats, golf clubs,
and other items are all numbered, checked out, and transported away from
the students, and no one is allowed to bring their own.

Depends on who you ask.

A lot of people simply wanted well-indoctrinated factory workers.

I don't know... it seems to me that the PHBs would love you for that.

No kidding...

Then again, I grew up in an urban area, and I still had plenty of use
for a knife.

What amazes me is the slobbering morons who think that taking these
things away will keep everyone save, or that safety is the end goal of
life in the first place.

What really ticks me off too is this bullcrap about having to be
"certified" to carry certain things, as if certification was some kind
of magic process which rendered those with it harmless.

There is also not reason *NOT* to carry them.

There are very good reasons for not allowing others to make all your
decisions for you.

There are a lot of things which we don't really need, but have anyway,
and a good number of them outside of knives and screwdrivers can be made
into weapons.

When I was in 7th grade, one girl stabbed another with a hair pin.

You want to outlaw them too? Some are more than long enough to reach
the heart.
