You would, although then he would have to restore it from his computer, if it is his computer that has the backup. I went through the whole process (actually a far more complicated one - as I needed certificates etc) last night with the OS4 update. It installs the update then redoes the backup, but the backup is safe in his itunes, so whatever you do, he can restore his backup > If he's paid for the upgrade, would it still be available via the net > via 'another' machine or would he have to pay again do you know (or > find the ipsw etc). Sorry, don't know how the charging of these things work. Well his iTunes will be on his laptop and he'll bring that with him (they both have to unlearn the habits of using slow broadband up there, like starting a Youtube video then pausing it to give it chance to buffer!). Here they can both watch different videos on their laptops whilst the Mrs is playing catch up with some online-TV. ;-) > >> If he's paid for the upgrade, would it still be available via the net >> via 'another' machine or would he have to pay again do you know (or >> find the ipsw etc). > >Sorry, don't know how the charging of these things work. Funny eh. I'd sorta expect everyone with an iPod/Phone to be signed in (although I haven't but I wouldn't consider myself a typical iPod user). Cheers, T i m

I have also had (and mostly thrown away) the free stuff from there. I got some music from there as I got a 100 iTunes voucher for 27 on ebay a while back and got some audio, although sab spent most of it on audio books, other than that I haven't got much from there. I have had a bit from 7Digital though again mostly the intro / cheap stuff. If online audio is more than half the price of the cd, I will get the CD. Its just easier that way. And mostly it isn't, as if you go round zavvi / hmv / cdwow / play, you can usually get it cheaper on CD than online. -- Woody

So even if it was to end up looking like it came out of the factory AND he lost iTunes I don't think there would be any tears shed. > >> >> I think he was given an iTunes voucher and used that to pay for the >> >> update (I don't think he had used the iTunes store prior to that). >> > >> >Until the apps came out, it wasn't something I used either! >> >> Funny eh. Ok. I was thinking of getting some credit on there just to see if it would put the album artwork on the stuff I did for Dad and his Nano. But I guess that isn't the issue for many and what I suppose the 'lifestyle' products are aimed at. 'Non technical and easy' rather than most practical and best VFM (although if 'times is money' etc etc). Cheers, T i m

Well, it just means I can recopy or reencode in a different format, or whatever. More flexability I guess > >And mostly it isn't, as if you go round > >zavvi / hmv / cdwow / play, you can usually get it cheaper on CD than > >online. > > But I guess that isn't the issue for many and what I suppose the > 'lifestyle' products are aimed at. Well. the iPod was originally aimed to take all your CDs and stop you carrying them around,. The iTunes store came later. I think the CD route is actually fairly easy, just maybe not so immediate for some. But then back in the old days I used to buy records unheard that just appealed for some reason, now you tend to hear them first and decide. Also I find if you buy a track from an album you like, you have that track, but in my history when I have bought an album, I have bought it for a specific track, and then ended up liking a different track a lot more in the end. Some just take more time to grow on you. Probably why I only ever listen to my iPhone on full random. -- Woody |
