I have looked but they all seemed complicated (in comparison with
Windows Music Player and some Linux app's that just seem to go off and
get it on their own)?

Oh, I though when signing up you had to put in yer card details (not
paying but the potential to be charged as such)?

Agreed.

Ok. My one would be easy to carry. ;-)

I was so not interested in the iPods at the time I didn't have any
feeling about the timeline.

I've done similar (mainly with LP's in the past) so know what you
mean. However I generally bought singles because I really only did
like the one track. Like 'Battles by Atlas',

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYZnG129-lE

... it first got my attention because it was the sound track behind
the latest Honda advert "Everything we do is in everything we do" but
listening to the track I only actually 'like' the mix that's used in
the advert. The rest is 'ok' but I don't think I'd listen to it all if
I had access to the 'next track' button.

I think I would do the same (and as I like Capital / Radio1 as driving
/ working background music that's probably the same thing). ;-)

Well, the one I used (can't remember what it was) just went and got it
on its own. I haven't tried the others, but am not sure how it could be
any easier.

Generally, although if you have a gift voucher or some free offer you
can sign up. I signed up for a US account with some free giveaway promo

I wasn't originally, thought it was a stupid thing for apple to get
into, but I had a lot of music on my PC at work, and winamp caused me
problems. It blue screened if I pressed pause when playing a CD. Yes I
know the easy answer there is to not do so, but someone calls and you go
for pause, and just remember as your finger goes down.
Anyone someone had an iPod, and I tried it - loved it straight away

Maybe not.

yes, same sort of thing.

It couldn't and exactly what I would be looking for (when you remember
it). ;-)

Yes, maybe the easiest but not the correct answer. Daughter uses
Winamp as her preferred player and wouldn't if it had any inherent /
repeated issues like that.

The only time I can remember having anything so predictable was with
Gamins Mapsource app and when looking for a serially connected GPS
that was no longer there. Then (and only then) it would instantly kill
Windows (it would reboot and be fine). As you say, if you know it's
going to happen you avoid doing so but when you are in a hurry ... ;-(

Doh!

>Anyone someone had an iPod, and I tried it - loved it straight away

I'm sure they are. The only problem with them that I have is the two I
have (was given) are both 'iffy', use non std connectors (as do other
devices admittedly) and aren't an open folder structure (so won't work
with my car radio over USB). So that would apply to any player that
behaved that way of course.

I like the drumming intro bit (well, the first 1:15 actually) in a
wouldn't turn it off kinda way. ;-) [1]

Cheers, T i m

[1] Daughter was going to a Samurai type martial art class and part of
that was drumming those big kettle type drums they use (along with
knife throwing and spear dodging but not at the same time as the
drumming <g>). It was quite uplifting to feel that beat when they all
got it together and because of daughters music background she was
quickly moved to the lead / timing drum. When they had a big group
then had to improvise with upturned plastic garden planters and even
the swing bin was pressed into service on one occasion (luckily it's
contents was in a liner). I think the issue with the number of drums
available was as much the cost as the transport and storage, at least
the planters would stack. ;-)

p.s. I remembered to add the note! ;-)

I'm not sure I'd say pleased as such, the service has been pretty
reliable but c/s (the few times I've called them) has been very
varied. [1]

I went to leave (NTL) once and they offered me broadband free for a
year to stay (and it would have been rude not to after that <g>) but
they couldn't even manage that and kept billing me! After another 'I'm
going' conversation they credited my account with 12 months payments
then took it out as normal. ;-)

I've never had ADSL and not sure I'd really want it. It's like using
USB for networking, it's just not the proper way. ;-)

Hey, have you read any other thread here. ;-)

[1] I have had the same cable via Cable Tel, NTL and now VM. We did
have two phone lines with them but they kept putting the prices up so
dumped them and only have BB with them now. BT for phone with 18185
and two VoIP lines from Sipgate via my Fritz!Box router as 'extra'
lines.
