From: Ritch_DA on 18 Mar 2008 04:16 What a nightmare. Wish I had spoken to you guys before buying the drives, bought 3 as they were a bargain! I think there is a lesson to be learnt here somewhere... you get what you pay for or something along those lines :D What happens if I attach the drive via USB, then reformat it with NTFS and assign the correct permissions? Or wont it let me do that? Might be worth a try. Thanks for all your help anyway guys. I will post back if I ever get the thing working. From: Henrik (Hear) on 18 Mar 2008 04:41 Hi, dont see it as supported. It doesnt say that Windows 2003 Server family products are supported. Okej, they doesnt say they arent either but what the lost say is the system that are, and the server 2003 family isnt on that list. Check with the supplyer if you can return them? From: Ritch_DA on 18 Mar 2008 05:15 Hi Henrik I have just organised to have the drives returned, got slightly stung with a charge but that's my own fault. Thing is with regards to the supported OS issue, I have a 500GB Mybook USB which just sais XP compatible just like the Lacie and that works fine with SBS2003, in fact looking through the list of drives from my supplier none of them so far state compatibility with 2003. Can someone recommend a 500GB USB drive which they know works with ntbackup / sbs2003? We are on a tight budget so anything around £100 would be ideal. I am tempted to just stick with the Mybook drives as I know they work and have never let me down. Any suggestions would be great, thanks. "Henrik (Hear)" wrote: > Hi, dont see it as supported. Well, the charge Is lesser then the purchase cost I assume. I didnt say it wouldnt work even though it doesnt state its supported. Using USB is different, you are then using an aknowledged standard and therefore should work. BUT if a drive for some reason uses drivers to work, then theres the problem that occurs, It most often the drivers that faile on you when it doesnt work.Spite, buying USB drives Is cheaper then your NAS even if you were charged for the returning of them. I normally use Iomega drives and have for years and they work without any problems. Maybe ther are others that are better ( i dont know) but mine works fine. Because of a system rebuild and a pre-migration process with my own environment Im right now running my backups to a 2,5 inch (5400rpm) pocket USB drive and it takes 25Gb approx. 2,2 hrs to complete. Not supported, homebuild pocketdrive of 40Gb and I have two of them that I take of site each day (have an home office). -- Henrik Arenblad, MCP SBS, "Ritch_DA" <RitchDA(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AC4BB10E-87BE-4913-B5DD-4C981220C641(a)microsoft.com... > Hi Henrik > > I have just organised to have the drives returned, got slightly stung with > a > charge but that's my own fault. > > Thing is with regards to the supported OS issue, I have a 500GB Mybook USB > which just sais XP compatible just like the Lacie and that works fine with > SBS2003, in fact looking through the list of drives from my supplier none > of > them so far state compatibility with 2003. > > Can someone recommend a 500GB USB drive which they know works with > ntbackup > / sbs2003?
