The problem was created by the lame Apple 10.5.6 Combo update. Pulling all connections is the only way to really do a reset with this Intel iMac. Apple should be ashamed of the 10.5.6 Combo update.

Not something I'd expect the OS update to necessarily be going after. And the 10.5.6 Combo updater ran without issue or noticeable side-effect on my MacBook and my Intel mini, so it seems like there's got to be something else in play. -- "Harry?" IMO Apple ought to be ashamed of Software Update's inability to verify downloaded delta updates before it tries to install them. An incomplete update should be a piece of cake to detect in such a closed system. OTOH the combo updater I downloaded from Apple's website went off without a hitch, thank goodness. -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I'm still waiting for the waters to settle a bit before I apply the latest update. And when i do, it'll definitely be the manually-downloaded Combo updater. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. And when i do, it'll definitely be the > manually-downloaded Combo updater. I used the Software Update to get 10.5.6 and everything worked. I then read there was a Combo updater so I downloaded it as I prefer to use combo updater. This was when my problems started. The Combo updater hosed my setup such that the Time Machine would no longer work. After reading the Apple discussion group that others had the same issues, I finally fixed the TM with some terminal commands. I then ran into the recovery from sleep that is the subject of this discussion. If I had it to do over again I would use ONLY the software update and would not use the Combo 10.5.6. JR, I suggest you avoid the Combo |
