If thermite interacts with steel, it can produce molten steel. There is no evidence that whatever people think they saw which might look like molten metal was, in fact, molten steel. Therefore, these anecdotal accounts do nothing to advance the theory that thermite was used because the assertion that the molten metal was really molten steel depends on the premise that thermite was used.
