From: Cindi Hartman on 29 Mar 2007 22:57 Just to follow up - I received Steve's file and the piece is now running fine on some systems, we still have the timeout error messages with the Xtras on other systems, but it does not appear to be related either to the Authorware piece or specific to IE7 or Vista. We're not quite sure what might be causing the timeout errors on some systems but not others. The LMS guy is positing that it might have something to do with limited user permissions on the network that the testers who are having problems are working from -- I'm able to duplicate the timeout error on one of my systems which is not on the same network, but that computer was configured by the same MIS guy who configured their systems, so possibly it is just something common to what that guy set up.... who knows??? Hopefully we'll figure it out soon and be able to make sure that it won't recur with any of the end-users of this online tutorial. BIG THANKS again to everyone - I really appreciate your help. Learned a lot. Cindi
From: DougRndl on 30 Mar 2007 14:55 I've been looking into this timeout issue on Vista also. I've been able to avoid the error by putting the .x32 files directly into the webplr08\xtras folder under the current user's Application Data folder, and I am not using the iFrame fix. I had to change a bunch of folder permissions to even be able to *get* to the folder under Vista. I suspect that the Vista timeout problem with the web player may be associated with the web player not being able to download xtras into the required folder, but I still need to do some more experiments to confirm this. The answer may be having to download and run a desktop installer to place the files. I think the iFrame fix has to do with using ReadURL with javascript.
From: Cindi Hartman on 30 Mar 2007 15:06 Doug: FWIW, we don't just get the timeouts on Vista -- I've got the timeouts also occurring on systems on a network running Windows XP SP2; one system using Internet Explorer 6, another using Internet Explorer 7. Also, it's always the same four Xtras, too: BMPVIEW.X32, MIXVIEW.X32, VIEWSVC.X32 and WAVREAD.X32. Cindi

Well, that's different. Are these the only .x32 files in your map .aam file? If so, are you sure you defined the MIME types for that on your server? Nonetheless, I still think there is a separate issue with Vista and these. As a test, I unregistered and uninstalled all player files. Then when I ran an AW file on Vista with no .x32's in the map, it ran fine. When I ran an AW file with .x32's in the map it gave me the timeout error. Then I ran an .exe installer to place the .x32's in the correct folders, and after that the AW file ran fine. (All in non protected mode, of course.) |
