I once met a Swedish lass on holiday and she told me that in Sweden the
cheapest way to buy whisky was to register as an alcoholic and buy it in
a pharmacy. This was in the early 1980s.

Actually that's not bad - I like that case. I wonder if it comes in silver.
I carry a Macbook Pro 15.4" and a recent addition is a Dell D430 with
Ubuntu Lucid.
The Dell is when I'm on the field and wouldn't mind (as much) if I
dropped it in the lake or it gets eaten by something unexpected.
Right now I am using the Dell.

it's much easier to get two routers, one of which an airport express
since it can join an existing wifi network (most can't). connect the
two via ethernet and instant wifi hotspot.

that's what the linksys is supposed to do in one router but his
apparently has problems (mine works fine).
