You can go start > run swriter <path to doc file>

or run a batch file

Without you telling me what the options you see are, I can't guess what
you should do. Hopefully the users' guide Yrrah has linked to in the
thread can help.

That's doesn't open, it links. You lose stuff, like images, headers and
footers.

Which format ?

..DOC
or
..DOCX

I have no problems going back and forth between OO Word and MS Word 2000 on .DOC files.
