If OpenOffice is the default handler for it, just click it. If not,
either use the OpenOffice menu File » Open option or drag the document's
icon onto an OpenOffice window.

Not the default. Drag and drop does nothing. Using file/open and selecting
file brings up a window with a heap of options, tried most of them - none
seem to work.
