That is what I did. That aside - thanks for > your advice. Then interchange "MS" for "Microsoft" as they are synonymous... The term you used; "Microsoft word processor", is generic. Notably, the files that you are trying to open in OpenOffice with filenames ending in ".wps" are "Microsoft Works" files - They are not "Microsoft Word" (.doc) files which OpenOffice can open. If you don't have "Microsoft Works" installed on your PC, then you could try the free office suite "Go-oo" <http://www.go-oo.org/> which is based on OpenOffice.org. "Go-oo" will open "Microsoft Works" (.wps) files directly. HTH -- dee

Which file format, .doc or .docx? Which Open Office 2 or 3? Microsoft Word 2007 default save mode is .docx. The MS word processor Works default save mode is .wks OpenOffice 2 cannot open either - can open neither - .docx or .wks files. Open Office 3 can open .docx but not .wks. You need to specify what/which MS word processor and/or which file format and which OO version. -- Mike Easter

I was trying to keep my 'which' in simplistic dichotomies, sacrificing the comprehensiveness of a broader spectrum question with one which would reach the intended target with a type of motivation to achieve a desired response/result; similar to the ladies shoes salesman who limits his query to a potential customer who now has 8 pairs of shoes out for trying and seems quite confused about just what to do now, with the simplified dichotomy query, "And which one would you prefer, this green pair or those blue ones?" The smart salesman would know just how long to pause before he said, "Perhaps both?" -- Mike Easter |
