Am I correct in that there's no problem with iPhone 2 or 3G, it's only 3GS which needs its SHSH and ECID backing up? > More details from the source, http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ - there's no > point believing any other websites about it except as additional > information to these guys postings. But are any of these websites written in English? I mean English as written and understood by a bloke over 50? It seems to me that the iphone-dev guys know a hell of a lot, but assume the reader does too, and any "clarification" is written in street-speak on a bulletin-board by teenagers whose knowledge of clear writing is hampered in that they may once have seen a punctuation mark in a museum, or have possibly heard one described, ditto correct spelling etc etc <dissolves into choleric rant> MST

I am almost entirely sure this is the case - except I've never concentrated on 3G needs, since I never had one. Definitely the 2G is wide open without needing those keys stored. >> More details from the source, http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ - there's no >> point believing any other websites about it except as additional >> information to these guys postings. > >But are any of these websites written in English? I ws going to go into a similar rant (or at least comment that as with all cracking groups, documentation is *very* poor), but then I read the "Pre-game show" post about 3.1.3 and thought "Actually, that's fine, and covers all cases clearly". But I've been jailbreaking since a few months after the 2G came out, and I'm 37... Go to iclarified.com for more newbie friendly hints - the 3.1.3 PwnageTool method/recipe is identical to earlier 3.x versions. But don't trust any site that says "This won't work" if iphone-dev.org says it will (or vice versa), is what I mean. I'm no newbie, but keeping up with the battle between Apple and iphone-dev is a struggle (newbie or not) if your brain only processes correct English. > Go to iclarified.com for more newbie friendly hints - the 3.1.3 > PwnageTool method/recipe is identical to earlier 3.x versions. Yes, that *is* a good site for clarity, but it tends only to give recipes, not understanding. I prefer to know what's happening so that if something does go wrong I can recover using native intelligence. > But don't trust any site that says "This won't work" if iphone-dev.org > says it will (or vice versa), is what I mean. Agreed. MST

Hmm... It's sentences like: Superbowl Sundays PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X will let you do so safely, preserving your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. (If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2.) which worry me. What's an ultrasn0w unlock? How is it different from a blacksn0w unlock, or indeed any other kind? How do I know which I'm using? In fact, since I'm with O2, how can I tell if my phone is unlocked at all? Which version of baseband am I using, and how do I find out? There's a big need for a site which answers these questions in terms an intelligent but uninformed person can grasp. MST |
