The one I like is freeware Screamer Radio. It also allows you to capture
the audio to file.

Sorry for asking you the details. If I'd looked a little harder at
XMPlay I would have seen how to do this. It's actually pretty simple:

1. Left click on the green checkmark.
2. On the window that opens, type in or copy and paste in the URL of the
radio station
3. Left click on the "Open URL" button.

I also found a setting for "Net streaming options" under the
Miscellaneous tab in "Options and stuff" (right click on XMPlay's title
bar). Located on their plugins page:

http://un4seen.com/xmplay.html#plugins

at the top of the list is the FLAC input plugin (revision 2):

"Allows XMPlay to play FLAC (inc. Ogg FLAC) encoded files and streams."

As for using Winamp plugins to do this in XMPlay, Winamp's plugin page:

http://www.winamp.com/plugins/

is less than helpful because you only see a description of a particular
plugin if you click on the listing.

If a person wants to record streaming media then, from what I've read in
this thread, the best option appears to be Screamer Radio:

http://www.screamer-radio.com/

It provides a "Favorites" listing and looks to be very user friendly.

Looks like a good station, but the OP wanted an "internet radio
programme I can listen to when working (no, not at work, at home)
capable of playing various types of music, with the ability to record
some, if they sound OK."
