Fallout 3 lasted about six months here. Splendid thing, it is. For the
addons, don't bother with Mothership Zeta but the rest are all good -
and Broken Steel is essential.

So people say, I am still wandering around the wilderness collecting
things. I never did any of the adventure games like this, but it is
really really impressive, the amount of freedom of movement, and how
wonderfully non linear it is.

All this talk is reminding how much I miss playing games (since I got
this Mini) and not just for the shoot-em-up-ness but also the team
play but enjoying the results of the effort and imagination that must
have gone into the maps and the graphics etc.

The last game I played regularly (Pariah, FPMP) had a reasonable level
designer / editor and some of our clan <g> were very good at it [1].
It was during the debugging process (a few of us were given the
privilege of testing) you really saw how much detail had to be
observed to make a level 'work' well. By that I mean no hole that
could trap a player, no height changes to big to just jump or ramps to
walk up (unless put there on purpose of course) or a map too big to
be still playable by just a handfull of players (we generally only
hosted closed games).

I would often enjoy just wandering about seeing the sights ... and
finding the possible routes and back-doors etc.

Cheers, T i m

Check out Fable 2 & Mass Effect for similar endless entertainment.
These older games are good value, too.

Mind you, Gears of War has it's appeal in a blood-and-chainsaw kind of
way...

It's just so easy isn't it? Ideal for purpose is a rare finding, but it
exceeded al expectations to be honest.
