Guess why you cannot accuse anyone of slander. Because no one here could think any less of you than they now do, i.e., it is impossible for your reputation in this site to be any lower than it now is. ... 25 Apr 2010 20:05
Evaluating an Infinite Series Im relatively new to the "serious" evaluation techniques. As a multivariate calc student, all I know thus far are the various convergence and divergence tests, and of course the evaluation equations for trivial series. But Im just curious as to how the "big wigs" figure out what a series converges to... in the no... 25 Apr 2010 21:13
can you use dirac sifting property to evaluate a proper integral? I'm studying for a test tomorrow and got stuck on this. How do you evaluate a proper integral of f(t) times the dirac delta function of (t-a) For example: the integral from -2 to 4 of (t^3+4) times delta(t-2) with respect to t I can't figure out how to make the sifting function work. In the chapter on Laplace t... 25 Apr 2010 20:05

Ordered computation of eigenvalues from good initial estimates, without explicit sorting In article <4bd2c77b$0$30906$5fc30a8(a)news.tiscali.it>, matt <none(a)none.com> writes: Dear all, I would like to be able to estimate _numerically_ the eigenvalues (ev) of a matrix M(x) as x changes, and display them in a plot. Let me use Matlab notation to further clarify what I'm trying to achieve. ... 25 Apr 2010 12:10
-- Packing unit circles in squares: new results Improved packings of N unit circles in squares are given for N = 67, 135 and 149. With those improvements: For N <= 150, no packings remain which are obviously suboptimal. We also discuss, following the new packing for N = 67, a problem which arises when only numerics are used to determine whether circles touch.... 5 Aug 2010 20:18
Delayed differential equation I am looking for solutions of this equation: y'[t] = y[t] - a y[t] y[t-1] y[t-2] It would be assumed that y[t] =0 for t < 0 . TIA slawek ... 26 Apr 2010 17:13

Question about finite union I am looking at Sterling Berberian's "Measure and Integration" and he has a definition on rings and sigma rings that I find confusing. In this book, a ring is defined such that it is "closed under the formation of set theoretic differences and <i>finite</i> unions" (p. 3). Then a sigma ring is defined to be "closed... 25 Apr 2010 17:50 |
