I was talking about Free Agent in response to your comment on it. As
for recommending other newsreaders, I agree with a number of
recommendations already made. I saw little point in a "me too" post.

When 4.0 expires, it will cease to connect online. You can still export
messages.

Forte Agent still supplies 3.3, which is still available in free, trial
and paid modes, http://www.forteinc.com/agent/download-all.php

X-news archives headers and articles on your hard drive,
but you have to tell it to,
it is not default behaviour.

In menus:
Special -> setup Xnews --> storage

to get to options.
might be a good idea to read the manual first though...
