I'm a relative newbie too having switched to Macs after using Windoze
for 20 years. I've been using Firefox since 2004 & I use it as my main
browser on my Mac.

I've tried to like Safari, and i do like it somewhat. It's fast and
clean looking, but there are 3 main reasons why it's not my main
browser:

1. The low contrast and small tab fonts are hard to read on my 20"
screen. The gray backgound is too dark.

2. It doesn't automatically restore tabs between sessions. I know there
is a menu item to do this manually, but i want it automatic.

3. Safafi doesn't remember some key toolbar icons after restarting.
Specifically LastPass and 1Password. The toolbar is reset to default.

There was one thing I hated about Firefox on the Mac at first: the
deault theme. Just plain ugly. I tried other add-on themes and settled
on Camifox, which is based on Camino.

It all come down to personal preference. Both of my daughters use
Safari on their Macbooks. Even after I install FF for them they are
still used to Safari.

Until Mozilla cleans up their Mac experience significantly, Safari is my
first choice. Aside from testing my own sites and trying out new
versions, I use Firefox as little as possible.

I usually use Safari, but have been known to use Firefox, Opera, iCab,
OmniWeb, and even MSIE (v5.2.x is the last Mac version...) depending on what
I'm doing. I've even got Lynx hanging around here somewhere, though I haven't
used it in a _long_ time.

I use both regularly. Safari is my default browser because, as an app,
it loads in 1/10th the time as FF. Meaning, if you click on a link in an
email, or something, Safari is up and displaying way faster than FF.

There are five popular browsers.

Safari.
Firefox.
Opera.
Chrome (Google)
Camino. (Very nice, stripped of superfluous bullshit)
