Well, I was thinking more of looking them up in the (paper) book and
dialing from the 1950s square-base on the credenza, but my cel phone
doesn't do anything more than make calls anyway, and it has a backlight
and stores some numbers:

One nice thing about the old book is that it doesn't blink, animate
decorations under your finger, make noise, or suddenly close itself.

But does it support Flash?

We live in a fairly small place but even so there are 3 competing paper
phone books; by far the best is the very thin "large print" one that
only has details for Our Town and the two neighbouring villages.

Hah! Mines got even fewer features :-)

I deliberately chose one without camera or radio at the time of
purchase, and that simple requirement was surprisingly hard to find.

You can write on it and circle numbers too.
