I did - I took the O2 sim out, put an AT&T sim in, connected to iTunes
and got this:

Hmmm, still no SMS and still no unlock - yet I think you did yours
roughly the same time as me?

Hmm. I wonder why mine hasn't.

I don't particularly want to be stuffed when updating to 3.2/4.0 and
finding that I don't have Vodafone use any more, then waiting two
weeks for O2 to do it again *properly*.

You didn't do any prep apart from switching the SIM?

My SMS took about 20 days to come through.

Same day it was originally mentioned. Actually later as I had to do it
later in the evening.

I guess luck figures quite heavily in the equation!
