Sure. It helps if you understand Scots, and you've got drunk with
Hamish Henderson a few times.

Mostly it's utterly filthy, and the lines which aren't are nonsense
syllables put in to make it scan.

Umm.

The one version by a Scottish group that I've got is not sufficiently
Scottish sounding for comprehension to be impeded by accent. Or so it
sounds to my ears...

But I hadn't realised that it was filthy - I thought it was ALL
nonsense.

Anyone wanting to learn more, you'll find both versions I've got on this
set:

<http://www.swarb.com/index.php>

(the record firm is such that the artists *DO* get properly paid, if you
should happen to buy a copy)

Actually it's all meaningful. No nonsense at all!

Trivial? It's in 14/8 time. Have you ever tried to sing it?

Well I never...

I shouldn't really be surprised, should I?

Thing is, all of my previous efforts to find out *ANYTHING* about the
words to Tail Taddle had drawn a total blank - no information was
forthcoming about the contents from *MY* Web searching, quite extensive
searching too.

I couldn't even find the untranslated lyrics. And does anyone really
need `quoth' explained? That one's standard English, innit?

Nevermore, croaked Jackanory.
