From: Timothy Mathews on 30 May 2010 06:18 Still relatively new to the Mac world, I'm trying to find a photo editor for simply tasks like cropping and rotating. Picasso and Preview don't seem to be able to do it and GIMP looks WAY, WAY over my head more like Photoshop. For example, I just got an attachment with four separate pictures combined into one attachment so I'd like to cut each one and copy it to a new picture so I'll have the four separate pictures and then rotate them 90 degrees so they're oriented correctly. I've spent a fair bit of time online trying to find something and have wasted plenty of download, install, try, bad guess etc so I thought, perhaps, someone here might give me an idea. If anyone is familiar with the Windows world, the program I used there was ACDSee which was perfect for my needs and I'm hoping to find something similar. No problem if it's not a freebie, I just want an idea of how the program works so I don't spend money for something WAY more capable/complicated that what I need. Thanks for any tips, Tim

Comes as part of the iLife suite of apps. If you bought a new consumer Mac, it should be included on it. That handles management of the media, so that it can be stored and organised quite efficently, and has some useful basic editing tools, such as crop, straighten, enhance, sharpen etc. If you need more, then Aperture is a very powerful tool for the job, and Lightroom above that (in terms of price). You could also consider Photoshop Elements, which is reasonably priced, and does 99% of the things most amateur photographers need. The organisation part of it is not so useful though. -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>

Apple provides a little application called iPhoto which does cropping, rotating, and various other simple editing tasks quite handily. |
