Xilinx could not even be bought, lost of vaporware, expensive too.

One of the more unusual applications was worked out in a thread here, where the OP asked for a way to get more audio output from a passive buzzer and the solution was to use two cross-coupled 555's with their outputs in bridge mode across the transducer.
