Problem with IR detection.
I'm trying to devise a presence detector using an IR beam and a standard remote control IR receiver module. I couldn't find datasheets for the receiver modules I can find locally and proceeded on the assumption that they'd be similar to the ones for which I have datasheets, like the Vishay, Sharp and Panasonic ... 8 Apr 2010 16:19

[rant] Lights with a mind of their own.
Well. To start, there's my front-porch light. The light is switched with an X-10 module that's gone over to the other side. Now when it's on, it grows bright and dark every few seconds, in a good imitation of my wife's Apple Powerbook's LED standby-mode breathing pattern. I kind of admire the show, bu... 7 Apr 2010 21:25

MC34063 with small inductors
Hello Folks, Have to correct a design with a 34063 in there. Buck, VIN 16-30V, VOUT slightly under 12V, 400mA max output. And no, I don't like it much :-) One of the issues is a saturating inductor. Can't change the layout and to be able to cram one in there I probably have to drop down to 47uH, maybe 68uH ... 9 Apr 2010 18:59

Eddy current question
Hi to all. I was just wondering what the characteristics of eddy currents are. For instance. If you have a pulse in a coil , as in a pulse induction metal detector, that introduces eddy currents in nearby metal , what format are the currents. Are thay ac , dc(decreacing in amplitude), what frequency. I know that t... 8 Apr 2010 03:59
