Protecting high impedance sections of PCB with metallic Sheets ratherthan metallic molds
Hello, In many sensitive devices/ instruments which have a sensitive high impedance section like a high impedance amplifier(10^12 Ohm or even higher) or other high impedance signals, I've seen they are protected by a metallic mold(mostly copper) that sits on top of sensitive parts and tracks and is usually scr... 20 Apr 2010 16:17

Advice to BSEE juniors and seniors...
I've been interviewing a few new BSEE graduates for a junior engineer position, and based strictly on what we're looking for, here is some random advice to juniors/seniors: Learn a real design program like Altium. Eagle is ok, but I think downloading the eval version and creating a few small projects would be... 27 Apr 2010 14:29
History of communications
After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York Scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago. Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a Califor... 18 Apr 2010 15:18
ESD protections
We are making a device with 18 inputs and 12 outputs, plus USB signals. We are concerned about EMI/ESD protections. There is ferric core (for EMI) and clamping diode (for ESD) on the USB line. Should we also protect the I/Os against ESD? Are inputs more critical than outputs? We can also change the buffer/deco... 23 Apr 2010 21:25
Relpy to Don: On The Origin Of Oil
On The Origin Of Oil Somebody probably thought of this before, but here is my idea: How I came to this: Somebody mentioned solar energy was no good. I wanted to reply that without 'Sol' we , the earth, would be just a few degrees above absolute zero, no plants would exists, and then I wanted to parrot what I... 20 Apr 2010 16:19
quantizer for LT Spice
Here's a quantizer in LT Spice: ftp://jjlarkin.lmi.net/Quantizer.jpg It wasn't hard, but the HELP is really obscure about syntax, and there is no example of a schematic with a b-source that I could find. There is a sample-and-hold schematic symbol, so one can simulate the effects of a clocked ADC or a DAC ... 20 Apr 2010 16:17
