Perhaps this is a silly question, but how much screen is left for actual
document? Whenever I boot into Windows, I'm surprised by how much real
estate is used for UI controls, and usually quite wastefully.

In that toolbar though one click on the 'home' tab will take that whole
thing away. In the previous toolbar interface you can't do that, you
would have to open and close all the toolbars manually.

There are ways of entering words that do not involve Word (a nice little
WP from Psion) and do not involve being employed as a typist, you know.

Some typists don't even use the WP called Microsoft Word.

I think I've never actually /used/ MS Word for any job of text
presentation, except to use it to open an MS Word file so I could get
the data into a form whereby a competent bit of software could munch on
it.

What, reducing efficiency, reducing productivity, lowering staff morale,
and increasing costs makes sense from a corporate POV?

<shrug>

Who knows?

Rowland.
(who once saw productivity and morale etc reduced by the old Amstrad
PC8512/8256s running Wordstar 2000 under blah-DOS vIforget being
replaced by Win 3.11 for Workgroups and MS Word v2. V numbers might be
slightly wrong. Thing was, the old rig worked, the staff could use it,
the new stuff was installed improperly configured and the staff given no
training on the new software.)
