As others have pointed out, it's not like Win 7 is really that much better than XP, or Office 2007 much better than 2003 (or 2002 or 2000 or even Office '97...), C# much better than C++, etc. I think I read somewhere that the largest single chunk of Microsoft's income actually comes from sales of Office these days? Their senior hardware support guys told me and they categorically state on their website that a fair proportion of the ones listed below are not supported past XP and never will be. Their driver installer crashes horribly when used on Vista. HP 5300C is the one I had and it is dead in the water on Vista. It seems like someone has hacked a solution on the Vista forums but to be honest I could not be bothered. It was never entirely reliable across screen saver invocations and would sometimes go AWOL. I made it clear to my contacts at HP that I would not be buying another HP and why. The replacement Canon is more than twice as fast and half the size. [snip] Regards, Martin Brown

If Win7 never has any bugs or security holes, you will have been proven right. John

As one who has tried to build a minimal image for a product using XP-Embedded, "out of control" doesn't quite convey the hair-on-fire nature of the problem. The volume and type of modules that get dragged into the build is truly insane. To give MS their due, once I got it tweaked it runs reliably from a read-only CF card.
