This happens when you spend your life wandering the internet looking for excuses to abuse people while hiding behind numerous stupid names. -------------------------------------------------------------- The GDEs (Graphical Desktop Environments) like KDE and Gnome are massive suites of graphical applications that run in the GUI and purport to be complete 'user-friendly' interfaces to the Linux operating system. They are much larger than a fully-functional Linux operating system, including GUI, with a full install of KDE consisting of over 118,000 files. These enormous and complex Windows-clone interfaces are financed by corporations who are hell-bent on destroying the Linux movement. Behind the visible corporations lurk M$ and Mac. Here's their strategy: 1. Give the Linux community free GDEs to divorce the user from the operating system. Get them to learn KDE or Gnome instead of Linux. 2. Give them a variety of GDEs, KDE/Gnome/Xfce so that the community is fragmented due to the users of the different GDEs inability to communicate with each other. 3. Make the interface Windows-like so that the Linux community is flooded by Windows-wankers who aren't interested in anything but using their computer as an entertainment or office appliance. Not so long ago, every Linux runner learned the shell interface first. We all had a basic understanding of the Linux operating system and could communicate clearly with each other and help each other out. We had better get back to that or Linux is soon going to be just a branch of M$ and it won't be free any longer, in any sense of the word. The corporations are pouring tens of millions of dollars into the GDEs and they don't make that kind of investment unless they figure they can make ten times that much money in the long run.
