From: Mike_in_Nebraska on 5 Jan 2010 20:44 Been at it for awhile and got Backup Exec to connect to the DB. These two articles did the trick: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/311668.htm http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/256661.htm The gist of it was that I needed to do a repair install of MDACS 2.8. Should be able to post my 'full' backup contents soon. Mike
From: Mike_in_Nebraska on 5 Jan 2010 21:22 I got the inventory and catalog done on the backup set. I have the following: System State (AD, Cert Svcs, COM+ Clas Reg db, IIS, Registry, Sys files, SYSVOL) Shadow Copy of System State (DHCP, Event logs, WINS, WMI) SQL Server 'SharePoint' - full SQL Server 'SBSMonitoring' - full SQL Server 'MSFW' - full SQL Server 'BKUPEXEC' - full SQL Server - full C:\ drive (Docs and Settings, I386, InetPub, NTDS, Program Files, System Volume Information, SYSVOL, Windows E:\ [not important] SQL Server 'Microsoft ##SSEE' - full First Storagr Group (Mailbox Store, Public Folder Storage) So ... Any recommendations on what order to restore them in? I beleive the Backup Exec help menu has the info, but there might be some real-world experience out there. Mike
From: Mike in Nebraska on 9 Jan 2010 16:34 After waiting out a snowstorm and time for the roads to be plowed, I finally made it in last evening. I spent 12.5 hrs and still don't have a fully functioning system. Cliff, I know your advice is sound, but I don't trust my abilities to do as you suggested and have it all come back (for me) within 12-18 hours. So ... I stripped down SBS and got SQL Server 2005 Express and Symantec Backup WExec 12.5 up by about 11 PM. Restored C:\Program Files and C:\ Windows (starting easy - I thought) and - fater an hour waiting for it to complete and a reboot, I had much of the old system, but SQL was again broken. Spent a couple hours on it, got nowhere, so I decided to go simple. Used Revo Uninstaller and a registry cleaner to uninstall and cleanup after all SQL installs, instances and MSDE's, Brought them back one at a time, working through the issues as they came up. Got RWW and - I thought - email working and left at 6:30 am to apologize to my wife for yet another all-nighter, and grab a couple hours sleep before heading back to work at my other job. Here's my remaining issues, which I'll work through one at a time. I'd appreciate any links or advice. ISA 2004 got installed and I was able to run CEICW successfully, but I can't connect to the server with an MMC, not is it showing up as an installed service. Unfortunately I don't have anything to offer, and I apologize for that, and many have provided some excellent suggestions. However I noticed in a previous post, Susan had suggested to call Microsoft CSS to assist you with this. With all due respect, I believe if you had, (on 1/4/10), I believe you would be up and running by now. I know there is a charge involved, but honestly IMHO, the small charge would outweigh all these hours you've been toiling over trying to get it going again and you would have been able to enjoy some time with your family and get some sleep. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. Yeah, I know. But I work one F/T and 2 P/T jobs now; the cost of a PSS call is hard to come by. I figure my time is much cheaper, espcially if I sacrifice sleep so it doesn't take away from my wife. Plus, I like to think I learn by trying to fix it myself. Sometimes I actually do ....
