..22LR will go up to ~1200FPS and magnums get to ~1800FPS, IIRC.
The speed of sound is roughly 1100FPS?

A friend made a crank operated machine gun from a Ruger 1022 rifle
with a 200 round magazine. He has a cam on a crank that fits in
the trigger guard. It's a lot of fun, though technically... ;-)
