From: Cliff Galiher - MVP on 7 Jun 2010 12:39 Many office related templates and registry entries are stored in a user profile, so yes it is entirely possible that the problem is userID related. If you use roaming profiles, it can even follow the user. Sometimes deleting the user profile is the easiest solution and let the OS recreate a new "clean" profile Regarding the warning, add companyweb to the trusted IE zone via group policy (oddly I thought this was default, but can't recall) and that should remove the warning. -- Cliff Galiher Microsoft has opened the Small Business Server forum on Technet! From: Steve Moss on 7 Jun 2010 14:07 I can report the exact same issue with a client after introducing a Win7 workstation (with Office 2007) for one user on an SBS 2K3 network. Roaming profiles are in use, and I migrated the user's old v1 (XP) profile to a v2 profile. At this time, I don't have another client workstation running Win7 to test with. Office 2007 and Office 2003 co-exist on the network, with Office 2007 saving in Office 97-2003 format by default. There are no DNS issues on the network, offloading/RSS are disabled on the workstation, and the workstation (this a Dell Vostro 220MT) is using all the latest NIC drivers. The issue only affects the user on that workstation - an admin login on the same does not suffer from the delays - and the delays vary according to which Office file is opened (always from a drive-mapped share on the SBS). I have as yet not attempted to recreate the user's profile (the user has, for instance, a highly customised desktop layout across dual monitors, and asking her to recreate the layout will attract much grief!). I realise all this may not be of help as such, but maybe between us we can come to a successful conclusion.
From: Howard08 on 8 Jun 2010 06:36 The editing of the hosts file (I added the IP address of the .local domain) improved the performance of the administrator account but not that of the users account. This morning I asked the customer to get another user to log on to the affected Win 7 / Office 2007 workstation. This user saw no delay in opening documents, so this confirms we seem to have a userid / user profile problem, not an Office 2007 problem. Any hints on best practice for deleting and recreating a SBS 2003 userid without losing emails, files etc.? From: Chi on 8 Jun 2010 06:46 I've been having a similar problem, slightly different configuration. - Files are stored on a Win2K8 SBS Server, accessed via a mapped drive. - Workstation is a Dell Percision Workstation 490 running Win 7 Pro. - I verified that both server & workstation have the latest NIC drivers - Some Office files, but not all, files are extremely slow to open. It can take 2-3 minutes to open a file. - This has been happening mainly with files saved with the Office 2003 file format. When I save as .docx or .xlsx, I don't have the problem. - I installed Office 2010 two weeks ago, but the same behavior was happening with Office 2007. - It has also been happening with my QuickBooks file stored on the mapped drive. I moved the QB file to the local WS drive and no longer have delays in opening it. - It seems to be caused by some sort of delay in resolving the file location, but I'm just not seeing any pattern to point me to the problem. - The workaround has been to save the problematic files as .xlsx & .docx - I've had no problem in opening files with that file format. That's good news. A corrupted user profile is not common, but it does happen. Logon to the station as the domain admin. navigate to the users profile (in 7 it is under users, not Documents and Settings), copy out the desktop, favorites and my documents folders and anyother user data (those are the most common). Delete the profile, login fresh as the user. All the user mail and documents should be on the server. If you have roaming profiles, then all the above is on the server as well. Let us know if that is the case. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > The editing of the hosts file (I added the IP address of the .local > domain) improved the performance of the administrator account but not > that of the users account. > > This morning I asked the customer to get another user to log on to the > affected Win 7 / Office 2007 workstation.
