iPod touch won't update? Hi all, Daughters b/f up in the back of beyond (Scotland) is trying to do a software update on his iPod touch. He said over IM: "Went to get the version 3 upgrade for the iPod, downloaded it (8 hours) then went to install, it said that it needed to restore the iPod to update. Infected XP computers unpatched <http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8624560.stm> This is brilliant. "The latest updates can spot if a system is compromised by the Alureon rootkit and halt installation." So basically Microsoft have said it's better to have a working infected machine than a non-working one. After all, the Alureon virus only ... 23 Apr 2010 18:11
Low-res icons in Dock? Just noticed that a couple of the icons in my Dock are fuzzy, low-res versions of what they used to be. Namely, Airport Utility and NetNewswire (the older, non-add supplemented version with the globe-and-satelite icon). Is anyone else seeing this? No reason is given. Perhaps they'll demand Google remove this posting from its archive... -- Richard ... 20 Apr 2010 23:01
Remote access My elderly dad (he will be 86 this year) who lives overseas needs a new computer to replace his old Windows XP PC and options that spring to mind are an iMac or a MacBook. Given the state of his eyesight and the size of the screen probably the former. His computer skills are basic and if we go along this route... 17 Apr 2010 10:46
Epson GT 10000+ scanner Driver I am trying to find a driver for this Epson GT 10000+ SCSI scanner. The Epson site gives a download that turns out to be a network utility for it and a copy utility but as far as I can see there isn't a driver. I'm using Vuescan which works with an A4 Canon usb scanner I have, but it can't see the Epson. I can ope... 17 Apr 2010 08:34
Firefox Is Firefox with noscript plugin becoming less reliable? I find I end up in a loop of Firefox reporting problems that is only resolved by a re-boot. I have recently left my MacBook on more than I have in the past. Another user gets the option to restore the last screens or re-boot when we share & switch users. ... 20 Apr 2010 16:30
Second-hand Mac Pro buying advice Does this look like a bargain or would I be wiser to wait and spend twice as much on the next (should be soon) base model Mac Pro? ===================================================== I'm selling my trusty MacPro1,1 (manufactured in 11/2007) upgraded with two quad-core (making for 8-core) Intel Xeon "Clovert... 27 Apr 2010 14:30 |
