From: Richard Tobin on 25 Apr 2010 05:16 I installed Adobe Read because I needed to read a multi-document PDF file. Now it wants to update itself. I tell it to go ahead, and it displays "Installing update..." but nothing happens. Eventually I find another window hidden below everything else, that says: Repair Setup Adobe Reader has detected that there are missing components that require repair. Select the optional components you would like to repair and click Continue. Deselect a component to completely remove it. Click Cancel to cancel the component repair process. Below, it lists only the Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin. Now, I don't care whether it repairs it or not, since I don't use Safari. But the window is dead. The tick box and the Cancel and Continue buttons do nothing. I can't even bring the window to the top; I have to move others out of the way to see it. Nothing produces any response. "Quit Adobe Reader Updater" is greyed-out in the menu. "Force quit" kills the first window, but the "Repair Setup" window remains. I can kill it from the command line, but the same thing happens again after a few days. Does anyone know how to get it to either install the update or go away? -- Richard

Does anyone remember Adobe when instead of being rubbish, they were inventing PostScript and programs like Illustrator and Photoshop? Daniele

Open up Adobe Reader and update from the help menu. I think I still got the problem with the stuck window, but it updated the Reader to 9.3.2 and the stuck window has not appeared since I rebooted.

I know what you mean. Nowadays they seem to be the New Microsoft.
