From: Howard on 8 Jul 2010 18:03 My iPhone 3G has turned to syrup since I stupidly and blindly upgraded to iOS4 .... it is now almost unusable and I am looking at my old pearl blackberry sitting in my bottom door more and more seriously every day :-( I see there is a way to downgrade but the process worries me that I might lose apps / data. I was wondering how many here have downgraded ? Howard

I tried doing it on my 2G iPod Touch, but I was not able to downgrade to 3.1.3 - I had to go to 3.1.2, because Apple's online validation procedure rejected reinstallation of 3.1.3. (I couldn't even install 3.1.3 again after going back to 3.1.2.) I happened to have a backup of my iPod as at 3.1.3, and it seemed to restore OK on 3.1.2, but I found I had some apps which didn't work (they needed 3.1.3 or later). If I had no iOS 3.x backup then downgrading the OS would have meant I couldn't restore from backup (iOS 4 backups are not compatible with iOS 3.x), so I would have had to set it up as a new device, and lost all my app-specific data and preferences (not a biggie). -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz

Rebooting cured it for a couple of days, then it happened again, so I think there's a memory leak. Hope 4.0.1 is out soon...

There's a 3.1.3 'spoofer' app in Cydia, which means you can install apps that 'look' for 3.1.3 to install. Hmm.. you say "didn't work" not "wouldn't install".. I'm fairly sure the differences in 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 were just a couple of minor bug fixes. Still, the spoofer might be worth a try though. Cheers ... Mark

No matter - I was only downgrading temporarily so I could test something. I'd rather leave it on iOS 4. -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz |
