There are replacement pressure treatments that, if I recall correctly, exclude the chromium (Cr(VI) is a really nasty carcinogen) and the arsenic. As you might expect copper alone is a pretty crappy biocide. They may add some organic biocide (glutaraldehyde comes to mind), but those are notoriously not nearly as long-lasting as metal salts. Most companies still give some form of pension (although they're getting worse) and also allow you to contribute to a company-matched savings account known here as 401K, named after the rule that enables its tax-exempt status (I believe). However, some companies are so desparate to hide the fact that they no long are giving pensions, that when you are interviewing for a job, they tell you that the 401K account is a "pension". The uncritical don't even know the right questions to ask, to tease out that lie. Fortunately, all three of the companies that have constituted my career all pay real pensions (for now). Eric Lucas
