They do because the wheels are virtually at the corners.

Eh ?

Not exactly. The original TF was launched in 1953, as a stopgap as they
were tooling up to release the A.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_T#TF

However, it's not clear to me what is the relationship between the F and TF
in its rebirth. I get the impression from the article you posted that the F
was just renamed the TF in 2003. I don't think the moniker is
appropriate--it's clearly not a T-type car by comparison to the pre-MGA TA -
TF of yore (swooped fenders, bugeyed headlights, side curtains in place of
windows, etc.).

As I understand it, it was US-mandated pollution controls and safety
equipment that phased in during the 70s that led to the severe decrease in
power and concommitant loss of sales. It's a shame, since if they'd managed
to make it another 5 years, fuel injection, electronic ignition and other
modern engine technology might have saved the marque (although the cost of
retooling might have prevented that.)

Oops! Before I realized it, I had a brief, maybe un-Christian, thought
about you, creep. You are a bit unsettled aren't you?
