No, I'm suffering from optimism that there might be a compromise solution
that doesn't involve us completely alienating about 1/6th of the world's
population. Oh, wait, you're right, that would be a fantasy. That "nuke
'em if they don't subjugate themselves to our will" attitude is exactly what
is starting to annoy most of the rest of the world, Muslim and non-Muslim.
We were so much more tolerable on the world scene when everyone was focused
on the Soviets and our cowboy attitude actually worked to stabilize the
world.
