Terry Jones has some bias himself (being strangely anti-Roman a lot of the time), but once that is taken into account it is a breath of fresh air for a history book. Very different from the normal, dusty, tomes that float around covering that period. He did a series for TV called "Medieval Lives" which, while being a little Monty-Python-Camp was very good. The accompanying book was pretty good as well.

I think there are a few more to go before it dies, but a lot of the originality seems to have gone. Hopefully some one will inject new life into it soon :-)
