Misinformation is a BAD Thing..... Actually there is a VERY Specific FAR that MANDATES that FIREARMS in Checked Baggage must NOT be identified by ANY Means on the Outside of the Baggage. This was MANDATED by a FEDERAL Staute Passed by Congress, and Signed into LAW....

This was MANDATED by a FEDERAL > Staute Passed by Congress, and Signed into LAW.... Well, the LAW has CHANGED, then, because the AIRLINES used to REQUIRE that FIREARMS be LABELED with a BIG STICKER! HOWEVER, there is nothing in the FARS that MANDATES that FIREARMS in Checked Baggage must NOT be identified by ANY means on the Outside of the Baggage. Not that I can FIND, anyway, either in my PERSONAL Copy of the FARs or on the ELECTRONIC copy at GPO ACCESS. Title 49: Transportation (NOT an FAR) Does Describe the Rules for Carrying Firearms in Checked Baggage in Part 1540: (c) In checked baggage. A passenger may not transport or offer for transport in checked baggage or in baggage carried in an inaccessible cargo hold under §1562.23 of this chapter: (1) Any loaded firearm(s). (2) Any unloaded firearm(s) unless— (i) The passenger declares to the aircraft operator, either orally or in writing, before checking the baggage, that the passenger has a firearm in his or her bag and that it is unloaded; (ii) The firearm is unloaded; (iii) The firearm is carried in a hard-sided container; and (iv) The container in which it is carried is locked, and only the passenger retains the key or combination. (3) Any unauthorized explosive or incendiary. -------------------------------------------------------------- I see NOTHING about Labeling or not Labeling in that part. So IF you have a REFERENCE I would very much like to SEE it! I am NOT saying that your Claims are Complete HOGWASH, but if you CANNOT Come up with an ACTUAL FAR that Supports what You SAY, then I will be LEFT with no Alternative but to Believe that YOU ARE TALKING THROUGH YOUR HAT. Note, of course, that this part applies ONLY to Aircraft where the Passengers are required to be SCREENED. Obviously, Passengers in PRIVATE Aircraft can and do carry Firearms. Apparently TSA believes that it would be a highly unusual Moose Hunter who would hijack himself. -- Waddling Eagle World Famous Flight Instructor
