The Taliban's refusal to surrender any plotters is entirely consistent with the Afghani tradition of hospitality and safe haven. These are highly cherished customs that have their root in Koran. There are work arounds, but the Bush administration was too blind to see them. Cheney had no intention of using those workarounds, even if they were recognized. Our disregard of their ways is a large source of the resentment against us. However, bringing that up is about as useful now as arguing that the UK was the biggest agitator in starting WWI. Now that we are involved, I see the problem as how to disengage while maintaining our security. -- Peter
