Here's a computer that I had built about 6 months ago: Triple Core 2.8 GHz CPU Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P mobo 4 GB of DDR3 1333 MHz RAM 9400GT video card 1 GB RAM 640 GB Western Digital HD 450W Alpha RaidMax PSU Alpha RaidMax black case with enough room for 3 or 4 additional drives Keyboard, Logitech mouse I paid $682 (CAN) for this computer guaranteed one year. The store has been in business for more than 10 years. Now, you know how it is, PCs lose their value. Nowadays, you can at least get a 1 TB drive for $10 more. Maybe the price of other material has also gone down. All this equipment bears a name, you can check the *complete* specs. The CPU is fully overclockable with settings in the BIOS. (I don't believe I'll need this anytime soon :) It's no lowest bidder stuff -- Lucky Golstar monitors or Samsung drives like you have on Macs -- with an Apple sticker on it. Tell me what you get in the Mac World for this kind of money? :)

You mean he's suddenly switched to Mac OS X on a PowerPC-based Mac, running NewsWatcher 3.4, and to a new internet provider? I suppose it's possible. Until I get confirmation, I'm assigning a different color to my filters for this nym. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my very hungry SPAM filter. Due to Google's refusal to prevent spammers from posting messages through their servers, I often ignore posts from Google Groups. Use a real news client if you want me to see your posts. JR

He 's just asking for a Mac estimate. Nobody can provide one? Come on, guys! Don't tell me you can't match the /estimate/ he's had on his desk for 6 months.

But since "Priam" is a generic nick name, it does 't matter if the "mac is expensive" messages come from him or any other person like him. HOWEVER, having said that. Apple should still be concerned about its image of its computers priced out of the market. |
