Yes, but if you buy your computer from large OEMs like Dell or HP, you
don't pay more. In Europe, as I explained time and again, you may ask
for refund.

That's why, if you intent to install Linux it makes more sense to buy
from a local shop that won't force you into buying Linux and offer
ebtter service than large chains.

Of course, you must make sure that the shop owner isn't biased to the
point that he says he won't support your hardware if you use Linux.
First, this would mean he's really stupid since he's paying at least
thrice the price Dell pays for Windows. (Though, admittedly, those shops
do a fortune just cleaning viruses and reformatting HD on computers that
come from chain stores :)

Nowadays, there aren't many of those shops left: they all went bankrupt.
In this kind of context, knowledge pays more than prejudice.

Priam, you may be able to get cheap PCs, but you're not getting the
status symbol of the lighted Apple logo on your laptop... :-)

Yep! Cheap better than Mac quality PCs. The absence of the Apple logo
preaches in favor of a sound purchase. :)

Since we're talking "sound"...

IS your cheap PC able to send Dolby 5.1 or DTS surround sound over
optical fibre to a stereo ? The Macs can.

.... and advertizing for M$ too because the keyboard meta-key is most likely
flying the M$ swastika.
