Stephen Fry (the british actor) is a member of the Church of Apple.

He has a very good blog entry about the ipad.

He was there are the launch, and confirms the "wait until you've touched
the thing before you pass judgement".

And still, people were using computers with comparable CPU power and
screen resolutions for serious work not that many years ago. Once
there're more details known about the hardware it would be interesting
to set a similar powered desktop computer with a 1024x768 15" CRT next
to an iPad in its keyboard dock...

I think it will depend on the software what this thing really is to you.
And there are not many classes of software that couldn't be ported to
it.

This all reminds me of the launch of the Mac. I thought the Mac was the
future and wanted one right away but many could not understand it or
why anyone would want a GUI. I think this device or something like it
is the future. I want one. But many are not going to understand right
away.

And in the iPad case, the three iWork applications will be sold
separately.

I just wanted to state that in the Works Suite perspective, the database
part is missing. And that the missing database part in reality is -
Bento.

Personally, i have no use for Bento. It isn't even possible to search in
the details part of a master-detail. So if you have something as simple
as a music database with tables Composer and Work, you would have no way
to find out who actually wrote Die Zauberflte ;-(.

I do, however, wonder when Filemaker, Inc. will make a FileMaker Pro
version for iPhone OS with full synchronization to FileMacer Pro on Mac
and Windows, and of course in the Mac case including the information
from the Sync Services - Address Book and iCal. It already exists with
Bento, and the 'solution' I have found, FMTouch, is faulty.

Ah, yes, my favorite physicist. Too bad he's so much in Einstein's
shadow.
