I need written documentation that explains what it's all about, gives me a structural over-view of the thing, explains its point, operational principles, and terminology all in a concise way. All laid out in a few pages, so I can digest the structures and fit it all together in my head. It's got to be in writing, and it's got to be well-organized in a fashion intended to assist learning. Wikis are useless for this sort of thing. So are `support forums'. I've tried - the info I need simply cannot be got as far as I can tell. The sort of documentation you pointed me at: video tutorials demonstrating how to drive the software to perform certain tasks - well, I just can't learn anything at all from that style of documentation. But it's the only sort that exists these days - and I can learn nothing from it. :-( Actually, I can't learn from Web based video tutorials full stop. I've looked at many. None of them leave anything behind in my mind at all. Nothing - empty. Web video tutorials are as far as I'm concerned a totally useless form of pedagogy. Which is odd, because I've learnt a lot from OU maths programmes. They're video tutorials, but tutorials prepared by people who know how to teach rather than clueless idiots. I assume that's the difference. If I'd access to the information I seek, I might be able to understand the Website you pointed me at - but I probably wouldn't need it. Unfortunately, what I want no longer exists in the world as far as I can tell, not unless I write it myself. And it's hard to write a manual for software that you don't understand. I've pointed out to many open source projects that the total absence of manual is a problem which stops me using their software at all. The usual response from the developers is to suggest that *I* should write a manual. They don't seem to understand the concept that it's impossble to write a manual unless you understande the software, and since I can't do that without a manual (or help from a real person of a sort that cannot be got these days), it's impossible and frankly the job needs to be done by someone who understands the bloody software in the first place. But that seems to be too sophisticated an idea for these clowns. Not really. Apple moved from 32-bit programs as standard to 64-bit. Nothing's broken, one can always run programs in 32-bit mode. I don't know the full situation, but 64-bit provides extra functionality. -- <http://www.decohen.com> Send e-mail to the Reply-To address. Mail to the From address is never read.
